G. Love And Special Sauce To Release New Album

G. Love and Special Sauce have announced the release date for Love Saves The Day from Brushfire Records on October 30, 2015. The album returns to the classic ‘hip-hop blues’ sound first pioneered by the trio in the early 90s and features a bevy of guest artists including Lucinda Williams, Citizen Cope, David Hildago of Los Lobos, Ozomatli, DJ Logic, Money Mark, Zach Gill and Adam Topol.

Love Saves The Day features the down and dirty “trashcan blues” sound of G. Love and his long-term Special Sauce rhythm section – upright bassist James “Jimi Jazz” Prescott and drummer Jeffrey “The Houseman” Clemens. Engineer and producer Robert Carranza (Jack Johnson, Beastie Boys, Mars Volta) recorded the group live with few edits to capture the raw and unfiltered electricity of the tracks. “The music,” G. Love enthuses, “jumped off the tape.”

For his 10th studio full-length, G. Love invited friends new and old to accompany him on creating a spirited groove-centric release. On the album’s opening self-titled track, David Hidalgo’s wicked guitar licks offer a nod to the blues-inspired bands of the ‘60s and early ‘70s. Hidalgo also contributes to two other songs - the lyrically charged “That Girl” and sharp-tongued “Dis Song”. Celebrated singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams joins G. Love on the delightfully unruly rendition of the old Leadbelly tune “New York City.” On the mesmerizing “Muse,” which arose from an all-night writing session with pal Citizen Cope, G. Love’s sinewy slide guitar drives the tune’s southern rock/hip-hop hybrid groove while Ozomatli contributes escalating brass embellishment. The L.A. group also lend energetic horn work to “Let’s Have A Good Time,” a super funky jam that could have easily been a lost James Brown gem.

A self-described road dog, G. Love and Special Sauce are currently on tour throughout the fall (a full list of performances are below). Dates for a winter/spring 2016 tour in support of Love Saves The Day will be announced soon.
