Moogfest, the annual festival celebrating the vision of sonic pioneer Bob Moog, continues to expand upon its extraordinary plans for 2011! With the weekend of October 28-30 just over three weeks away, we are excited to share all sorts of new Moogfest-related news that make this year’s event even more of a can’t miss for fall!

One of the most monumental and influential musical figures of the past century – the composer and performer Terry Riley – will be joining the Moogfest line up this year, presenting a special concert. Although he has chosen to perform mostly acoustic in recent years, Riley will present a rare concert of his legendary electronic keyboard music, including his remarkable A Rainbow In Curved Air, the visionary work which shaped and inspired the music of Pink Floyd, the Who, and countless others, including fellow Moogfest icons Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Tangerine Dream, and, of course, Brian Eno.

Riley’s son, the outstanding guitarist, performer and composer Gyan Riley, will also join him in concert. Gyan’s most recent work, Stream of Gratitude, was released on John Zorn's Tzadik label earlier this year.

Speaking of Brian Eno, Warp Records has announced the exclusive pre-release of Eno’s new EP, Panic Of Looking, at Harvest Records in Asheville during the Moogfest weekend, giving festival attendees the opportunity to pick up the new release before anyone else in the world. Eno will be attending Moogfest 2011 for the opening of his video installation, 77 Million Paintings. He will also be presenting an “Illustrated Talk” on Saturday afternoon during the festival.

With a growing fest comes a need for more venue space and so, Moogfest is moving outdoors with The Launch Pad at the Renaissance, located in the heart of downtown Asheville. Offering a large open air space in the lush atmosphere of Asheville in autumn, The Launch Pad at the Renaissance will host epic performances beginning in the late afternoon of each day and continuing into the evening

And, of course, in the next three weeks we’ll be rolling out more information on Moogfest’s panels and workshops, where your favorite artists and insiders will discuss all things Moog and electronic music. A number of this year’s performers will be participating in the panels which will take place all 3 days, including Moby, Dan Deacon, and Neon Indian, just to name a few. More details will be announced soon.

Finally, don’t forget about this year’s excellent lineup: The Flaming Lips, Moby, Passion Pit, STS9, Tangerine Dream, TV on the Radio, Special Disco Version featuring James Murphy and Pat Mahoney (DFA/LCD Soundsystem), Umphrey’s McGee, Chromeo, Crystal Castles, Amon Tobin: ISAM Live, Flying Lotus, Suicide (playing their legendary first album in its entirety), Ghostland Observatory, Childish Gambino, M83, Neon Indian, St. Vincent, Beak>, Matthew Dear, Tim Hecker, The Field, Anika, Toro Y Moi, Zomby, John Maus, CANT, and Oneohtrix Point Never, are just some of the many exceptional acts gathering for this year’s event. The day-by-day breakdown is below.
