The kings of experimental punk-funk Primus recently unveiled the details for the release of Green Naugahyde, the band’s first studio album in 11 years. Green Naugahyde (ATO Records/Prawn Songs) will hit stores on September 13, 2011, and the band will be embarking on a month long 18-stop tour in support of the release. The tour, billed "An Evening with Primus" will feature two full sets from the band and start in Boston (Sept 23rd) before making its way west to the tour finale in Los Angeles (Oct 22nd).  A pre-sale for the new album Green Naugahyde and the tour is currently available at clubbastardo.com.

The record has all of the magic and mystery that its title calls to mind. It expands on the band's incomparable sound and also sees them bringing it into the next millennium. It is a cerebral and complex album that, like all of the band's output is teeming with the signature Primus blend of whimsy and underlying darkness.  While no one can say for sure what the future will hold in store for the band, the important thing is that this album exists and will inevitably hold its own in the band's impressive cannon of music.

Green Naughahyde is a Primus record in the truest sense of the word.  It was produced and engineered by Les Claypool in his personal studio, Rancho Relaxo, in Northern California, and features long-time guitarist Larry LaLonde as well as drummer Jay Lane, who has weaved in and out of the Primus line-up over their long and storied history.

27 years into their career, Primus continues to push the edge of innovation with their music. Following in the footsteps of artists like Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd, Primus has become synonymous with the most inventive music in existence.  If there are any doubts in your head as to Primus' belonging in the upper echelon of originality in the musical universe, this record will quickly put them to rest.  A steady stream of cool content will be released over the next few months leading up to the album, so make sure to stay tuned!
