A musical celebration of the life and career of songwriter, composer, performer and founding member of the seminal folk group, "The Weavers," Fred Hellerman (May 13, 1927 - September 1, 2016), will take place Sunday, September 24, at 4 PM at Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Music Center, 129 West 67th Street in Manhattan.

Mik Bondy recently received a gift of a custom Jerry Garcia Tiger guitar (built by Scarlet>Fire Guitars) and performed with it for the first time at the Brooklyn Bowl on Jerry’s 75th Birthday, presented by The Jerry Garcia Family. Mik will have the Tiger and the Travis Bean (76-78 era) on stage at all upcoming shows.

The Association for Recorded Sound Collections has awarded Country Music Hall of Famer Bill Anderson and author Peter Michael Cooper with Best Historical Research In Recorded Country Music for their work Whisperin’ Bill Anderson: An Unprecedented Life In Country Music. The Awards will be presented at a ceremony on May 12, 2018 during ARSC’s annual conference.

Acclaimed psych-soul outfit Chicano Batman released Freedom Is Free via ATO Records earlier this year. The album not only foregrounds the soul and R&B elements of the band's sound, but also speaks volumes during the political climate of this time. Today, the band shares the powerful new video for the title-track that is a compelling statement of the band's frustrations in a world of oppression; passionately fighting back against their captors to free themselves both figuratively and literally.

Warner Music will release IRON MAIDEN’s ‘The Book Of Souls: Live Chapter’ on November 17th worldwide [through BMG in the USA]. This live recording comprises 15 songs captured during ‘The Book Of Souls World Tour’, which covered 39 countries across six continents during 2016 and 2017, and was seen by over two million fans.

“Satellite City” is the first single from Steve Kimock’s forthcoming (October 27th) album of the same name.  It will be available September 27th at ITunes and Amazon and of course at kimock.com. The tune sets Kimock’s splendid guitar against Leslie Mendelson’s beautiful voice in a beautifully mystical dream state, and it’s a wonderful choice in what will be a superb album.

“Before The Lights Go Out” is long time Alice Cooper/Lou Reed Guitarist Steve Hunter's latest solo album. The cover art and title make a statement about his failing eyesight, but don't make the mistake of thinking this is a quiet wave goodbye. As soon as you put on the first track, you will know that this is more like a Blues Rock Declaration of Independence! There are sexy grooves, luscious guitar tones and melodies galore.

Billy Strings plays hard and he lives hard, picking so fast and intensely that he’s known to break multiple strings per song, and basing the songs he writes on the hard lives he grew up around in the abandoned rural communities of America. His new album, Turmoil & Tinfoil, taps into a deep vein of psychedelia in Americana, referencing everything from the Dead to Sturgill Simpson, but all underlaid by Billy’s undeniable virtuosity and his knowledge of the roots of American music.

Art is always about reinvention, about taking the elements of the past and reimagining them. In today’s vast network of ideas, sounds, and media, the way new life and energy comes to older artistic forms is in flux--and in the hands of young artists worldwide.
