The Beach Boys new box set, Feel Flows – The Sunflower and Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971, is out now via Capitol/UMe, in honor of 50 years of the band’s timeless and often underappreciated albums, Sunflower and Surf’s Up. The expansive 5CD box set chronicles and explores in depth this metamorphic and highly influential 1969-1971 period of the band’s legendary career.

Record Store Day Black Friday is scheduled for Friday, November 27, 2020, the day after Thanksgiving, at a brick-and-mortar record store near you. Omnivore Recordings will be making two titles available that day: Little Richard’s Southern Child album and Brian Wilson & Van Dyke Parks’ Orange Crate Instrumentals.

Laid Back Festival will return in 2020 with two incredible all-star events celebrating the vast range of American music and food. Presented in partnership by Gregg Allman’s longtime manager Michael Lehman and Live Nation, the single-day festivals will take place Saturday, August 8 at Wantagh, NY’s Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater and Sunday, August 9 at Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center. Live Nation presales begin Thursday, February 20 at 10 am ET; all remaining tickets go on sale Friday, February 21 at 10 am ET.

On a beautiful late summer evening, Thursday, September 12th, Nederlander concerts brought a historic classic rock double bill to the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The term classic rock is often used loosely to label old rock bands but perfectly describes a night of music from Brian Wilson and his phenomenal band and The Zombies.

Illustrious musicians from the vanguard to the nostalgic, some of who began plying their craft in the ‘60s, and others who are poised for big recognition in the 2020s, all shared a distinctive Southern California seaside aesthetic at the inaugural BeachLife Festival May 3 to 5. BeachLife, the biggest fest ever to blast its jukebox along the Santa Monica Bay at Redondo Beach, combined sun, sounds, sand, and surf and passed its acid test with flying colors.

Esteemed headliners Bob Weir and Wolf Brothers, Willie Nelson & Family, and Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, are among the biggest names to perform at the inaugural BeachLife Festival, set for May 3 to 5 at Seaside Lagoon, Redondo Beach, a city of about 67,000, nestled nicely in the south end of Los Angeles County’s Santa Monica Bay.

Summer seems to be coming quickly to a close, and the end of festival season is in sight.  This summer was somewhat special, as I was able to witness the birth of two new music festivals onto the scene.  In July it was the mega-sized Mile High Music Festival, and on August 16th and 17th the smaller, cozier Jackson Hole Music Festival.
