Great American Taxi

The time has finally arrived after surviving the many long months of winter, finally, festival season. “I grabbed my sleeping bag from behind the couch and headed out the door on a path that’s free to walk”. It’s time to celebrate the life and music of one the greatest writers of the 20th century, time for the John Hartford Memorial Festival, year III.

Preparations are underway for the 3rd Annual John Hartford Memorial Festival being held in the hills of southern Indiana at the Official Bean Blossom & Bill Monroe Music Park in beautiful Brown County, May 30–June 1. This is the third of what the festival’s creator, John Hotze, and co-promoter, Dan Dillman, hope to see as an event to preserve the legacy and music of the late John Hartford, one of America’s most beloved songwriter/performers and musicians.

For the last two months, SoulFax Sessions  has brought together a staggering group of talented musicians from some of the best up-and-coming bands Denver’s vibrant music scene has to offer. Each Thursday night features a diverse line-up of players culled from a roster over over 30 local musicians who currently are involved in the project. The Park House has been bumping every week as these great musical minds bring live music and dancing to a part of Denver that has been craving a scene just like this for years.

Shannon McNally is stomping her boots on the stage of the Fox Theatre as good as any other night crawler out there as she growls into the microphone like an early rocakbilly queen.

Park House and Listen Up Denver! are teaming up to present SoulFax Sessions every Thursday Night at Park House. Park House is a restaurant and bar that opened a few months ago in the old PS 1515 Catering House at the corner of Colfax and Madison, and the music loving owners have remodeled the place beautifully.

As I arrived at the festival grounds Sunday, August 26th, I regrettably walked in right as Grant Farm was playing their closing chords. I heard their forward-flowing jamgrass sound from the walk down. This Nederland and Front-Range mainstay band led by National Flatpicking Champion Tyler Grant is one of the hottest local bluegrass acts to catch.
