As soon as I heard the guy selling flower crowns charmingly belittling his own product, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be. Despite the cool fog that hung over the weekend, taking in the towering eucalyptus trees that encase Golden Gate Park, I felt warm. Back at Outside Lands for my third year, it almost instantly felt like I was home again.

No single thing makes a festival the “best festival ever.” Sure, one great band can make it really good. Or maybe the campground scene was where it was at. But it’s really when you group those moments with the ones of unbearable laughter, silly dancing, and inspirational people that a festival becomes the “best ever.” And you know what? On the heels of the success of the Aiken Bluegrass Festival’s 2013 spring event the festival will return to Aiken this spring on May 9th and 10th, 2014. With an eclectic mix of traditional and progressive bluegrass, the 10th annual Aiken Bluegrass Festival promises to be the most exciting year to date. “What defines us as an event is our knack for booking bands that enjoy sharing the stage; friends who happily sit in on each other’s sets” says event director, Christian Schaumann.

Us cold-blooded mountain people could care less about below freezing temperatures and blustering blizzards. Live music is the lifeblood of Colorado’s thriving entertainment industry and the people want it all year round.
