Not only is heavy metal rare to see in Boulder, but Sweden’s mysterious and anonymous Ghost is a rarity on the tour circuit in general. What a treat this was! For me, it started almost five years ago when my aptly named friend, Metal Steve from Long Island, NY told me how I have to hear this band Ghost. It was not an easy task. At the time, Pandora and Spotify did not know who they were, and their music was hard to get a hold of. Finally, I found their music and instantly became a fan.

Representing’s titular track opens harmlessly enough with pan flutes that could’ve come right out of a fifth grade recorder songbook—off-beat, a few clinks on the cymbals, notes here and there... and then those reverb-laden drums start to build in the fourth bar, the trills become methodical... and we’ve arrived. From here on out, the album can be divided into two halves—the first, a solid mix of old simplicity and new production, an all-around fun listen without many breaks.

There’s one thing you can count on from a Gogol Bordello show; you’re going to leave it dripping, either from your sweat, everybody else’s sweat, or with some red wine that frontman Eugene Hutz uses to liberally douse the crowd. California based Jimmy Pinchak composes in an eclectic style borrowing from Rocking Blues music, combined with an Alt-Rock aesthetic. His lyrics share a black humor/self-deprecating sensibility. He writes of the mundane and the complex, and probably doesn’t understand everything but questions what he already knows. His latest debut CD entitled Make it Better captures the spirit of more Blues based rock material from Bon Jovi, Goo Goo Dolls and even Keith Urban.

The venue’s Velvet Jones, a small-to-medium set in downtown Santa Barbara with Zion-I headlining—my first California show. Born and bred in New England, I had zero idea what I should be expecting from the Friday night gig out here on the western coast.

Roman is obviously vocalist is an accomplished singer/songwriter. Each style, each song on this CD expresses something a bit different than the other - a complete moment if you will. To me it’s comparable to looking into then suddenly experiencing what it is to be inside a snapshot of time. Some of the snapshots are silly or laugh-out-loud funny, some serious and passionate. Others are of contentment, exuberance, sadness, reverence. It’s a time capsule of time really.

Fans of The String Cheese Incident wondered if they would ever get a chance to hear anything new from the band after they decided to take an indefinite hiatus following their 2007 summer tour.

Ghost Owl's debut album "Say Goodbye to Finland" will be released on May 6th. The album as a whole is an experimental drift through futuristic soundscapes famed with uplifting electro-pop arrangements. This ten track LP contains the singles "Sky Yellow", "Idiot Kid" and "Velva 500". The one binding theme throughout these budding tracks is the prolific use of synthesizers; aimed to move the lamest of limbs.

Ghost Owl, from Athens, Georgia, blend an ethereal mix of unique electronica sounds, indie pop and psychedelic soundscapes to create a dream-like trance that’s both driving and hypnotic.Featuring the singles “Sky Yellow,” “Idiot Kid” and “Vela 500”, the album Say Goodbye To Finland (Release date Tuesday May 6, 2014 on CDbaby, Itunes, Spotify & more) is the mental, studio cohort to their

As I stepped into the Gothic Theater in Denver I immediately felt the electrifying energy of the crowd. Fashioned in outfits right out of a speakeasy, the men looking spiffy in suits and hats, while the women dressed to impress, in classy dresses and harmonizing accessories.
