Trombone Shorty

My first visit to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (a.k.a. "Jazzfest") was sort of a happy accident. In 1988, I was a young 20-something Grateful Dead tourhead, and I heard rumors that Little Feat was going to play their first show since the death of Lowell George a decade earlier. The allure was heightened by the fact that the reformed band would play on a riverboat floating on the Mississippi in New Orleans.

New artists have been added to the highly anticipated second sailing of the Big Easy Cruise, which will set out January 5 – 12, 2025. The voyage will depart from Ft. Lauderdale and will make stops in Key West, Belize City, and Cozumel on the luxurious Holland America Line Nieuw Amsterdam.

This summer, the high octane of New Orleans' Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue take center stage on a headlining tour with support from legendary Big Boi from Outkast. The run will begin in June and includes the Hollywood Bowl in LA on September 4.  An additional date in June includes The Rooftop at Pier 17 with support from Neal Francis. See below for the full itinerary. Tickets go on sale on Friday, February 9 (10AM local).

In an engaging tribute to the vibrant spirit of New Orleans, Ivan Neville has released the official music video for "Greatest Place On Earth," a standout track from his latest album, ‘Touch My Soul.’ Premiering on the heels of this week’s Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans and the countdown to Fat Tuesday, the video is a heartfelt ode to the city's unparalleled energy during its most famous season.

Trombone Shorty took over Havana last weekend, leading a group of all-star American artists and teen musicians from the Trombone Shorty Foundation to the schools, clubs and streets of Cuba to celebrate the New Orleans – Cuba connection and unite around music. The five-day cultural exchange trip took place from January 11-15, 2024, marking the third edition of the “Getting Funky in Havana” festival.

For years Dave Matthews Band has made its way to The Garden in New York, NY for two nights in November...  Friday, November 17th we got a chance to join in on night one of the collective’s Walk Around The Moon fall tour at the venue. It is commonplace for the group to cajole their many friends to play along on these dates and this two-night stint was no exception.

In its second year of operation, the annual ALL IN Music & Arts Festival in Indianapolis seems to have hit its stride.

Today, Ivan Neville has announced ‘Touch My Soul,’ his first solo album in nearly 20 years, out 4/21 via Mascot Label Group / The Funk Garage. Tough-minded but tender, filled with joy, beauty, and pain, ‘Touch My Soul’ exudes an unmistakable New Orleans ambiance while breathing new life into Neville’s singular sound. It’s both a love letter to the Crescent City and a celebration of Neville’s emotional and spiritual journey as an artist, a father, and a man.

The 25th Rhythm & Roots Music, Dance, and Food Festival will feature headliners Greensky Bluegrass, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and Dumpstaphunk, who will join more than 20 other bands at Ninigret Park over Labor Day weekend.
