Psychedelic indie sensation Sour Magic is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single, "Compound Vision." This introspective track takes listeners on an allegorical journey of a young larval bee chosen by The Hive to become the new Queen. Filled with trepidation and self-doubt, she questions her worthiness to bear the weight of this distinction and responsibility. Despite her uncertainty, she answers the call and undergoes a mystical transformation into a higher consciousness, emerging as a Queen in full bloom.

The Sour Magic Journey to "Compound Vision"

Named one of the top 10 acts in Colorado by CPR’s Indie 102.3, Sour Magic began making waves in 2022 with their debut single, "Indigo," quickly earning slots at numerous shows and festivals across the state. Following the success of their debut album, "Forbidden Fruit" (June 2023), which amassed over 100,000 streams, the band solidified their status as one of Denver’s top-streamed artists. Their rise continued in 2024 with a performance at Meow Wolf alongside Norwegian artists Orions Belte and a feature slot at the 2024 Underground Music Showcase.

About "Compound Vision"

"Compound Vision" originated from a drum and bass rhythm conceived by drummer Jay Waldrop. "The goal was to write a drum beat that perfectly paired psychedelic and indie influences," says Jay. "The first time we played it together, we felt very linked. Mauro's intro guitar riff felt like it was pulled right out of my mind."

Ethereal synthesizers, wet guitar layers, and the soaring vocals and searing guitar solo from vocalist Eliseo Salinas build on the initial driving groove to create a hypnotic blend of psychedelic soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from contemporary psychedelic rock like Tame Impala while tipping a hat to legends like Pink Floyd, "Compound Vision" takes listeners on a journey that ebbs and flows between dreamy, tranquil moments and intense, turbulent waves, guiding them into a vivid new reality.

This is the first track Sour Magic has recorded with lead recording engineer Taylor Hahn of Hahn Audio, who brings his years of experience and expertise to the band's upcoming album. "The obsession with creating a unique sound and experimenting all came together. That take that feels just right is almost like completing a melody that isn’t even there or crossing into a realm beyond language," says guitarist Jonny Nasi.
