IBMA award winners Missy Raines & Allegheny announce their new album Love & Trouble with the release of the album's lead single "Anywhere The Wind Blows" out today. The new single is a multi-generational collaboration between Raines, Laurie Lewis, Kathy Kallick and Ellie Hakanson - each a leading female voice of her generation in bluegrass music.

Kathy Kallick co-wrote the song in the '70s with John Reischman when both were members of the Good Ol' Persons, a staple of the West Coast bluegrass scene and one of the first female forward bands in bluegrass that also included fiddler/vocalist Laurie Lewis. Three thousand miles away and a teenager at the time, Missy was absorbing the bluegrass sounds of the mid-Atlantic bluegrass scene. She didn't discover the Good Ol' Persons until she was in her 20s, but the band made a big impression on her.

Missy remembers: "I first heard recordings of the Good Ol' Persons in the early 80's but it was rare to get to see them on the East Coast. That all changed when I started playing with Eddie and Martha Adcock in 1985, giving me a chance to travel to the West Coast a few times a year. As a woman, it was incredibly empowering to see and hear Laurie and Kathy on stage. And the songwriting!  They were/are such great writers.  When I heard 'Anywhere the Wind Blows' I knew immediately that I wanted to sing that song with Ellie. It spoke to me. Then we got the idea of having Kathy and Laurie sing it with us won the record. I am so honored that we were able to make this happen!"

About the song, Kathy says: "John Reischman and I were pondering the old approach/avoidance dance, how the grass is always greener, and you can't always get what you want, but then you don't miss your water 'til the well... and came up with this song. What a thrill to hear Missy and her great band reinvent this, and then be invited to sing along!"

Laurie adds: "I have always loved Kathy’s song, “Anywhere the Wind Blows,” and it is an absolute kick to hear this updated version with Missy Raines & Allegheny. It is icing on the cake to have been asked to be a little part of it. Such a great groove!"

Allegheny's fiddler and vocalist Ellie Hakanson, some 4 decades Kathy's junior, became aware of the song growing up in Oregon in the 1990s. She says: "I've always been a huge fan of Kathy Kallick, Laurie Lewis, and the Good Ol' Persons, so I was thrilled when Missy brought in this song for the new record. I was especially excited that Laurie and Kathy sang on the track! They are both huge role models to me, and I grew up listening to their music. It's an honor to play music with them now!"

Missy Raines & Allegheny have made a significant mark on bluegrass with their distinctive blend of traditional roots and innovative musicality. Fronted by Missy Raines, one of the most celebrated bassists in bluegrass, the band is known for its tight arrangements, heartfelt harmonies, and deep ties to mid-Atlantic bluegrass traditions. Raines' powerful bass playing and soulful singing, along with the band's intricate instrumental work, gives their music a fresh yet timeless feel.

"Anywhere The Wind Blows” is available on all digital platforms via Compass Records today. Look for the new album Love & Trouble coming May 2nd.
