Grateful Web is thrilled to present the exclusive premiere of LadyCouch's official music video for "Limbo" today, October 25th. The Nashville-based 12-piece ensemble continues to push the boundaries of rock and soul, delivering a dynamic sound that's both innovative and deeply rooted in musical tradition.
Step into "Limbo"
Conceived during a late-night drive after a raucous Phish after-party in Atlantic City, "Limbo" captures the essence of feeling stuck between where you are and where you want to be. Vocalist and percussionist Keshia Bailey penned the song in the band's sprinter van as the city's lights faded into the distance. The track imagines Limbo as a bank with an endless line, a metaphor for life's uncertainties and the sweet oblivion that comes when "your soul can't be eased."
Adding to the song's rich texture, Mike Harris and Cory Younts of Old Crow Medicine Show contribute guitar and mandolin, infusing a southern-fried flair that complements LadyCouch's robust sound.
A Video Filled with Nashville Spirit
The music video for "Limbo" is a celebration of community and camaraderie. It features a humorous cameo by Preston Evans of Acme Radio Live, who steps in as a stand-in for LadyCouch's own Allen Thompson.
"It's long been an inside joke in Nashville that Preston and I are doppelgängers," says Thompson. "LadyCouch has always been a reflection of the music community, and we wanted to lean into this idea—and have some fun—with Preston standing in for me during the video shoot."
About LadyCouch
Formed in 2017 at the legendary Exit/In, LadyCouch is fronted by the powerhouse duo of Keshia Bailey and Allen Thompson. Bailey, a direct descendant of jazz icon Bessie Smith, brings a vocal force of nature that perfectly complements Thompson's authentic belt and Appalachian growl.
The band's lineup is a rotating cast of talented musicians, including guitarists Grayson Downs and Clint Maine, drummer Ray Durham, bassist Gordon Persha, keyboardists Jake Blumberg and Mary Hull, and the vibrant LadyCouch Horns: Ben Classon, Seth Fox, Paul Thacker, and Diego Vasquez. Many members have toured with notable acts like Keith Urban, The Teskey Brothers, and INXS, adding depth and experience to the group's collective sound.
Evolving Together
"As our town changes, we're all changing with it," reflects Bailey on the band's growth. LadyCouch has spent the better part of the last decade refining a sound that's uniquely theirs, marked by collaboration and a shared vision.
"We knew we'd all be making music together for a very long time, but it's pretty damn impressive that we are all still growing together," Bailey adds.
