I had originally started this review with a cute anecdote. It’s kind of my thing, and everybody else’s. But I’m going to cut straight to it. This was fucking insane. Oh. It was sooooo good to hear live music again! Big Bad Voodoo Daddy brought their dance-inducing swing revival sound to Ventura's hometown audience for three nights, August 17-19th. The shows were part of the Rubicon Goes Retro drive-in concert series. The summer concerts, which continue through September, feature the latest fad in live music, concerts in your car.

Guitarist John Lee Shannon's Tompkins Square debut, In & Of, out October 2nd. Recorded at Panoramic House in Stinson Beach CA, the album was intended as a collaboration with late guitarist and producer Neal Casal, who passed away a year ago this week (August 26, 2019).

Canadian Country and Western star Colter Wall just dropped “High & Mighty,” the final single from his upcoming, self-produced album Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs before its release on August 28th. “‘High & Mighty’ is a Saskatchewan saddle bronc song written by Lewis Martin Pederson III,” says Wall. “LMP hails from around Abbey, Saskatchewan, not far from where I grew up. He’s known for rodeoing, his poetry, and in the ’70s he put out three great records—that I know of.
