Quickly becoming one of the most anticipated music festivals in the nation, The Forecastle Festival is back for another big year with headlining acts The Avett Brothers, Alabama Shakes, and Death Cab for Cutie down on the waterfront in Louisville, Kentucky on July 15-17. Other promising performances include Ryan Adams, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Grouplove, The Arcs, Gary Clark Jr., and Dr. Dog. The festival will also feature several late night shows including 23 String Band and RJD2 with John Dose.
I was eager to see Ray Wylie Hubbard again live after his performance at Music on the Mesa in Taos. I rushed back from taking care of some business in Albuquerque to catch Ray Wylie Hubbard as he began his set. When I got there I regretted that I didn’t know that there was an opening act and that it was singer-songwriter Bob Livingston. There had been no indication of an opener in the information I’d been given.

Money Chicha is an Austin, Texas based group featuring members of the Grammy-award winning Latin orchestra Grupo Fantasma and its offshoot funk outfit Brownout which performs a fuzzed-out, reverb-drenched and percussion-heavy style of music inspired by the sounds of Peru and Colombia in the 60s and 70s. This style of music, sometimes called “chicha” music, is known for its infectious Latin beat, its psychedelic, surf guitar pyrotechnics and its melodies influenced by the indigenous culture of the Andes mountains.

Certainly, the most exciting news for long-time YES fans was the recent announcement that three of the group’s best known past members, singer Jon Anderson, guitarist Trevor Rabin, and keyboardist Rick Wakeman - ARW - have united and will be embarking on a world tour starting in early October (October 4th in Orlando, Florida at Hard Rock Live) running through the spring of 2017.
