Festivals

Yesterday’s lineup was the best of the festival, in my opinion. Starting with Balkan Beat Box and ending with The Infamous Stringdusters, there was an eclectic mix of amazing artists in between.

My day began a bit late on Friday. I would like to say it’s because I found a basket of kittens and was completely distracted...or that I was showering or something like that. But no...I got a late start because the moment I got to Wakarusa on Thursday...I lost my keys. I had to ride back to Fayetteville, whip up yesterday’s review and head back to Mulberry Mountain. But it’s never a bad thing to have to make that beautiful drive one more time.

The rain yesterday definitely put a damper on people’s moods and show attendance, but the artists kept the show going for Wakarusa 2012.

There are still two great days of music left, hopefully with better weather.  Here are the shows you will not want to miss for Saturday of Waka:

1:30 p.m. Balkan Beat Box

Thursday at Wakarusa started in the afternoon for me. After the Great Campsite Shuffle of 2012, I headed out to see one of my favorite electronic artists, Phutureprimitive. He has great technique and puts on a generally fun show! Plus, there was a sexy fire dancer lady performing on stage with him - this is always a big plus in my book.

I’m here! I’m here! I’m so excited to finally be here! The first night of the festival was incredible--cooler weather made it feel amazing outside at all the shows, and after wrapping up in blankets or whatever they could find festival-goers seemed to be out in full-force through the night shows.

After taking a few hours to recuperate this morning (maybe check out the yoga or hoops), here are the shows you are not going to want to miss for Friday of Wakarusa.

12:00 p.m. Dank Sinatra

NedFest is an annual three-day outdoor music, arts and microbrew festival with camping located in the mountains of Nederland Colorado, just 17 miles west of (3, 000 ft. above) Boulder.  Today NedFest announced their inital line-up, including Keller Williams, Steve Kimock, Kyle Hollingsworth, Melvin Seals, Jimmy Herring, Vince Herman and many more.

Last night’s rain has cooled down the temperature to the mid 70s, so it’s a beautiful morning for your drive out to the mountain for Wakarusa 2012. The music is scheduled to begin in the early afternoon today and go through Sunday night, and there are so many awesome and unique bands it’s hard to choose which shows to see.

I spent my entire weekend at DelFest thinking of a musician who wasn't even on the lineup:  Doc Watson.. I had heard of his declining health just before I departed for the festival.  I overheard many at DelFest expressing their own concern.  It appears we all had a feeling, sadly.  I wish we'd have been wrong.

Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival made an open call to fans this spring to design the official 2012 Bear Creek Poster and now, the festival is calling on fans to vote for the winner. This year, 38 amazing artists submitted entries to the Poster Design contest and it's time to narrow down the list. In the first round, which ends at midnight on Saturday, June 2, fans can vote through the Bear Creek Facebook page.

Vail Soul Music Fest returns to Ford Amphitheater in the majestic mountains of Vail, Colorado on August 17-18-19, 2012.
