Unique to the video is that it was produced by Ashley Huicochea, an aspiring student videographer who won a Chicago Public School’s district-wide competition to produce the video. The event benefited Chance the Rapper's art fund, SocialWorks, that empowers Chicago's youth through the arts, education and civic engagement.
After an opening set by local Chicago singer Kaina, Jamila came out on stage to present the competition’s finalists and the winner, Ashley on stage before premiering the video. She closed the evening with a 60 minute set.
House of Vans has been presenting a great line-up of concerts since opening, however this event captured something particularly special; both the excitement Chicago’s emerging hip hop scene and the civic-mindedness that these artist, starting with Chance, bring to the city. These artist have talent, vision and camaraderie.
For Chicago fans who has caught Woods’ performance at North Coast Music Festival last September, her main stage performance at Pitchfork last month, and now this headline show, are witnessed to her rise as a noteworthy act.
