With election season upon us, the Music Votes coalition has announced a new round of partners including Activist Artists Management, Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP), The Azoff Company, Band of Sisters, CD Baby, DoStuff, Environmental Media Association (EMA), Epitaph / ANTI- Records, FLOOD Magazine, The Hometown Project, The ROSTR Group, as well as college-level music business programs including MEIEA (Music & Entertainment Industry Education Association), Appalachian State University, Colorado State University, New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, Syracuse University’s Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries, University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, in addition to Northeastern University Votes, Music Portland, and music law firm Alter, Kendrick & Baron, LLP.
Music Votes was founded by the Music Sustainability Alliance, a 501c3 non-profit organization working to bring the music industry together to reduce emissions and waste, and leverage the industry’s enormous platform to address the climate crisis. The coalition, which formed in April, provides a 3-step solution with direct links to the industry’s leading civic and issue-based member orgs for voter registration, ensuring the correct identification to vote where applicable, and turning out to vote. Music Votes also provides solutions for integrating crucial non-partisan causes in a seamless manner, making it easy for busy music industry professionals to quickly find the voting partners and messaging they need.
The coalition has also incorporated four additional new members that the industry can opt-in with and take action, thedownballot.org, The Fan Alliance, Joy To The Polls, and When We All Vote.
“The music industry is in such a unique position to increase voting, especially among marginalized communities and first time voters. Our recorded songs and live tours reach listeners and concertgoers in every town across the country, and Music Votes makes it easier for the industry to empower fans to make their voices heard in the November election and beyond,” explained Amy Morrison, Co-Founder and CEO of the Music Sustainability Alliance.
Music Votes is also proud to announce the release of its first podcast episode, which follows the format of the Music Votes 101 webinar hosted by Bill Werde, Director of Syracuse University’s Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries. The podcast is out now, and available on Spotify and wherever you get your podcasts.
