Gov't Mule's Darkside of the Mule.
Tinley Park, IL
After opening up with two Gov't Mule songs; "Railroad Boy" (with Haynes on a rare 12 string Gibson Les Paul) and "Rocking Horse", Hayne and crew launched into their Pink Floyd commemoration 'Darkside of the Mule' pulling out all the stops as they served up a stunning representation of Pink Floyd's catalogue ranging from "Echoes, Part 1", to "Have a Cigar" with "Comfortably Numb" as their encore. They tastefully omitted "Another Brick in the Wall" preserving set time for songs like "Shine on You Crazy Diamond".
Bassist Jorge Carlsson played an extended bass solo at the end of "One of These Days" that was intoxicating. Along with bandmates Warren Haynes, Matt Abts, Danny Louis they delivered robust and faithful Pink Floyd renditions with opening act Avett Brothers Scott Avett and Seth Avett singing on "Time" and "Breathe". Black Crows' guitarist Rich Robinson on "Fearless", and Marc Ford and John Hogg (Magpie Salute) singing on "The Nile Song".
Fans were thrilled to see these two musical worlds come together.
