Folksinger Michael Johnathon is set to wrap the 2021 season of WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour on Monday, December 6 at Lexington’s Lyric Theatre with award winning Bluegrass duo Darin and Brooke Aldrige. The multiple IBMA winning, husband & wife pair from North Carolina will perform songs from their latest critically-acclaimed album, This Life We’re Living.

Seven years and three studio albums later The River Arkansas have hit their flow state.

It was written, recorded, and produced by River Arkansas frontman Mike Clark in a reconstructed shed he fashioned into a music studio. Records’ 60th anniversary this year, famed director and photographer, Atiba Jefferson, has created an engaging short film about the significance and continued cultural relevance of the orange-and-black record label known as the House That Trane Built. Titled “6 on 60,” the mini doc features interviews with six artists from a variety of fields spanning the worlds of jazz, punk, funk, rock and skateboarding: legendary jazz stalwart Ahmad Jamal, who released some of his best records on Impulse!

Zoe Berman is a Denver-based singer-songwriter. She accompanies her sultry vocals on the piano and guitar, often complemented by a hand-built suitcase drum played with her feet. Zoe "combines musicality and lyrical poeticism into a hypnotizing mélange of soul, Jazz, and americana music" to create a unique sonic experience that defies traditional genre classifications.

It’s not many artists that can say that they’ve written songs in Antarctica, but for Joey Capoccia of Olympia, Washington Americana band The Pine Hearts, the South Pole was just another place to stop and look for inspiration. Working as a carpenter for the National Science Foundation, Capoccia holed up in the South Pole Station’s greenhouse to write the song “Wouldn’t You Know” on The Pine Hearts’ new album, Lost Love Songs, coming February 18, 2022.

Written in 2019, “Our Ghosts” is AV.’s second single off of her debut EP called “Guess I’m A Ghost”, which will be released in spring of 2022. This is one of the first songs that was written for the record. In this song, AV. describes a relationship filled with miscommunication and lack of trust. As the chorus says, “Even when you cut me blood to bone, you always seem to bring me back home, captivated by you even so, it’s just another one of our ghosts.” In other words, AV.

Even a wildly experienced songwriter and traveler like David Jameson needs to tap into outside inspiration from time to time, and on his brand new single, “Ballin’ the Jack,” it was a conversation with his long-haul truck-driving uncle that lit the spark. Taking the form of an out-of-control semi-truck—both lyrically and musically—“Ballin’ the Jack” uses imagery lifted directly from that conversation to tell a tale of a person living out of control.
