Dire Straits

In the dim-lit corridors of music history, where shadows waltz with echoes of timeless melodies, there emerges a figure whose artistry has carved deep grooves in the very fabric of sound. Today, August 12th, 2024, we at Grateful Web gather to honor the 75th revolution around the sun of Mark Knopfler, a musician whose hands have coaxed the strings of countless souls, and whose voice has whispered tales both grand and humble.

Flatiron Recordings is thrilled to unveil the highly anticipated debut of One Deep River, the tenth solo studio album from Mark Knopfler, on his own label, British Grove, via Blue Note/EMI. This album offers an unstoppable flow of future Knopfler classics, featuring his customarily learned lyrics and refined guitar textures.

Mark Knopfler’s voice never sounded young. The Dire Straits frontman was in his late twenties when the timeless hit “Sultans of Swing” took over the airwaves in England and the U.S. in 1978. It was easy then to imagine the singer was himself a member of the storied bar band of which he sang; a time-tested musical soul-blowing Dixie double four time in a local dive bar decade after decade.

Mark Knopfler’s tenth solo studio album, One Deep River, is set for release on April 12 on his own British Grove label via Blue Note/EMI. The record will feature 12 new songs, highlighting Knopfler’s warm Geordie vocals, his poetic storytelling and richly melodic guitar playing—pre-order/pre-save the LP here.

Mark Knopfler – The Studio Albums 2009-2018, a 9 LP vinyl/6 CD boxset & digital SD/HD, will be released on October 7 by UMe/EMI, gathering together the second half of his solo songbook with his more recent studio albums, to add to last year’s ’96 – 2007 collection.

At one point during his two-plus hour concert on a pristine evening, the last day of summer, Mark Knopfler took some time to banter with the sold-out audience at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. “I love playing here. I’ve played here many times. I have often thought about retiring in recent years,” the 70-year-old former lead guitarist and vocalist of Dire Straits shared with the Los Angeles crowd.
