Jerry Garcia

August 9, 2010 marks the 15-year anniversary of legendary musician and Grateful Dead co-founder Jerry Garcia’s death. As a way to honor his musical and community legacy, the gifted musicians on this compilation have generously contributed stirring live performances of Jerry Garcia songs to benefit the Rex Foundation.

The fifteenth annual Gathering of the Vibes will begin next Thursday, July 29, at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, CT.

The San Francisco Giants will pay tribute to music legend Jerry Garcia on Monday, August 9, when they face the Chicago Cubs at 7:15 p.m. Garcia and the Grateful Dead are synonymous with San Francisco and each year the City celebrates “the days between” which are the days within Garcia’s birthday (August 1) and the day of his passing (August 9).

It was another jam-packed night outside the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. You would have thought you were seeing Furthur on New Year’s Eve 2009 all over again. It was just about impossible to get into line outside the arena as there were so many people walking up and down the cordons with their pointer fingers in the air hoping for some miracle ticket to gain entry into DeadHeads kingdom; a Furthur show.

I'm over my wishy-washy indecision about which show to review up next for y'all.

In many ways the Grateful Dead's music was destined from the beginning to be a symphony, much as the band itself was an orchestra with core members and a rotating cast lending a hand.  When I was a kid and my father would listen to them I would immediately be able to draw similarities due to the complexities between their music and classical.  Perhaps that's why it's fitting that finally after all these years someone has finally written a symphony which is based on and inspired by the

This is hands down one of the cleanest, best sounding soundboards I've ever heard of a Jerry Garcia Band show. As you may know, Jerry never authorized recording of any incarnation of the Jerry Garcia Band, so most recordings in circulation are stealth audience recordings. Soundboard patches were few and far between, so everyone in current circulation is like gold to me. This one is absolutely perfect, with a pristine mix and gorgeous tone all the way through.

The Grateful Garcia Gathering '08 continues on its long strange trip, and now the bus is pulling into Legend Valley (formerly Buckeye Lake Music Center) outside Columbus, Ohio. The 3Gs takes place July 31 through August 2, 2008, and will celebrate what would have been legendary guitarist Jerry Garcia's 66th Birthday.

"There Ain't Nothing Like A Grateful Garcia Gathering", and with a warm summer just 6 months away, the bus is up and running again! Its next stop will be the Grateful Garcia Gathering 2007 being held once again on August 2nd - August 5th. The 3G's will celebrate and pay tribute to the life, art, and music of legendary guitarist Jerry Garcia on what would be his 65th Birthday. This music and camping festival will once again take place at the picturesque Camp NCN Campground located in beautiful Black River Falls, Wisconsin.

The night started out cold and rainy, which is almost as unlikely in Boulder as the Jerry Garcia Band has been.  Ironically, I inquired to my wife about two weeks before the announcement of the show, while listening to the JGB recording from Kean College 1980 about when they will play in Boulder again.  I saw them play in San Diego last summ
