In terms of pure musicianship - the ability to play or sing well, both technically and expressively - the individual members of the Tedeschi Trucks Band are each gifted, seasoned and professional. Some, most obviously Derek Trucks himself, ascend to a level of artistry that transcends mere training and practice. They are accomplished, but more importantly, they are unique, and born to be so.

In today's flashy, tech-y, trend-addicted, junk-the-old/jack-in-the-new pop music culture, it is ever-so-fashionable to throw dirt on the coffins of guitar-based rock 'n'roll bands and not even toss a funeral rose. Whether you stumble into them in online music reviews and blogs, People magazine, or even Rolling Stone, you can read the dismissals practically every day. Goose returned to The Chrysalis at Merriweather Park for round two last Saturday, and delivered dark, raging jams for a very packed crowd. This was the second time the Connecticut based squad played in this tranquil, natural environment that contains an artistic stage designed to meld with the surroundings. This band continues to grow their fan base, as many in attendance were at their first or second show, and loving it.

When Gov’t Mule announced earlier this year that it would have Oteil and Friends opening shows Aug. 11 at the Roadrunner in Boston and Aug. 13 at the Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, the mind reeled with the possibilities of what to expect.

Goose, the head turning indie jam rock squad from Connecticut who recently sold out Radio City Music Hall in New York City, kicked off the second leg of their stacked summer tour at The Chrysalis in Merriweather Park. Located in Columbia, MD, this was the first time Goose had played in this innovative space.
