Skatalites

When the opportunity to see one of the catalysts of a certain genre of music presents itself, the general inclination is to get up off of the couch and learn something while boogying down. Considered to be amongst the earliest purveyors of the ska movement born out of Jamaica, and directly influencing what has come to be known as reggae, The Skatalites are a treat of a band led by the sole surviving founder, Lester “Ska” Sterling on alto saxophone.

WALK WITH ME presents that last recordings done by original drummer Lloyd Knibb who passed away shortly before this album saw release. The 11 tracks on this album are a tribute to all the members who have passed on over the years and is another in long line of outstanding collections from the grandfathers of Reggae and all Jamaican music.

Deep in the heart of Chinatown lies a dark and gothic like cave we in Philadelphia like to call the Trocadero. This particular venue holds a nostalgic memory for me.  It wasn't since the early 90's (when I was in high school and went to see Anthrax at this venue) that I had the opportunity to see a show here. It's a great venue. On the other hand, the atmosphere at the Troc tonight had a whole different feel to it. It was light and bright with Rasta sounds and swingin' ska fans.
