Umphrey's McGee

As the temperature drops, the wind picks up, and the setting sun over Lake Michigan paints the sky with vivid streaks of orange and pink, fall begins to settle in. I find myself lining up outside The Livery in Benton Harbor, a place steeped in history. Once a city livery where horses and wagons were kept, it has now transformed into a beloved brewery known for excellent food and, perhaps most notably, its great live entertainment.

For a band who has brought their music, and in most cases, their home country fans, to international stages in Japan, Australia, Europe, and most recently, Iceland, improv-rockers Umphrey’s McGee know what it means to make music into a vacation. For fans who’ve done plenty of Caribbean or Yucatan festivals, those who need an excuse to leap to a far-off destination, or those hardcore enough to tick off yet another show from their favorite band, Umphrey’s McGee have just announced the upcoming Morockshow.

In the twenty-five years since eclectic improv-rock band Umphrey’s McGee formed, their sound has been an amalgamation of genres, moods, and tempos, effortlessly flowing from one feeling to the next throughout an album or concert—or sometimes within a singular song. But with time and repetition comes wisdom and maturity, both personally and musically, and in the case of the band’s new album "Asking For A Friend," Umphrey’s McGee entered the recording studio with something to say and a wise, measured way to say it.

Still firmly rooted at Three Sisters Park over Memorial Day weekend, Solshine Reverie navigated the rebranding challenge to meet the expectations of Scampers. The times they are a changin’.

AEG Presents just announced that the indomitable force in live music, Umphrey’s McGee, will be captivating audiences in Colorado with two exclusive performances. The band is set to take the stage at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail on Friday, June 14, 2024, followed by a landmark performance at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Event Details:

Opening with a perfectly replicated doo-wop vocal stack, Umphrey’s McGee’s latest release, a ripping cover of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” finds the Chicago-based veterans of the improv-rock scene sticking closely to the original wax from Bowie’s 1983 album of the same name. But this new version has a ringer that could’ve never been dreamed up those 41 years ago: the incomparable Huey Lewis on lead vocals.

The concluding day of Bonnaroo 2023, Sunday, June 17th, kept the 85,000-strong crowd of festival-goers spellbound with a grand curtain call performance by The Foo Fighters. The simmering tension of a potential thunderstorm only heightened the anticipation, adding a dramatic edge to an otherwise electrifying day. But in an instance of atmospheric serendipity, the celestial downpour held off, allowing the final chords to echo across Centeroo before the heavens unleashed their symphony.

The Peach Music Festival continued on June 30, 2023, with a full lineup of music across three stages at Montage Mountain in Moosic, PA. The crowd was loving the festivities, and the weather continued to cooperate for the most part.

“A celebration of 25 years of music and the next best show,” is how Chicago-formed improv-rockers Umphrey’s McGee describe Frame x Frame, an all-new retrospective “rockusensory” film about the band of brothers who’ve stepped on stage together more than 2600 times—and growing.
