It’s a packed house Friday night at SF’s The Independent, and fans are jammed tight for experimental folk rockers Akron/Family. Crafting an indigenous vibe with some pagan artifacts, a frilled turquoise Cherokee quilt is draped over Miles Seaton’s keyboard, as the band shuffles unassumingly onto the stage.

S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, is the latest release from Akron/Family, the folksy, electronic madmen behind some of the greatest musical endeavors of the last five years. And this latest adventure, as the title might imply, is quite the undertaking.

I started day two of 10K in utter relaxation, dozing late into the morning through a minute of light rain on the tent. It was a music festival, after all, and the idyll didn't last long; the air was soon full of air horns and people yelling "Butt Sca-ratcherrrr!" (ah, the sounds of morning). Overall, though, listening to the murmur of campers at Northwoods had a magical quality, a constant lone hand drummer in the distance, magical woodsy acoustics. The morning was sunnier but still mostly overcast as I headed out to The Barn to catch Akron/Family<
