Playful yet angsty, soulful but light; the dual essence of California’s golden coast filled an almost sold out Bluebird Theater Monday night. If you’ve ever been to the beaches of Los Angeles at night, you know the warm, hazy magic that happens once the sun sets. The vibe is free, open - but underneath the surface people can be just as broken as they are elsewhere.

Last week Denver based bluegrass band Trout Steak Revival played a sold-out show at The Bluebird Theater to showcase their new album Brighter Every Day. Banjo player Chris Pandolfi from The Infamous Stringdusters produced the album and sat in with the band for their album release.
This show was the icing on the cake of a super busy music weekend in the Mile High City. The Bluebird Theater played host to an ultra-talented bill. It was a cold and snowy night in Denver, but people still came out on a Sunday night to see one of the most talented bands in Colorado cover Ween’s famous Chocolate and Cheese album.
“It’s all happening.” That was Penny Lane’s famous line from the movie “Almost Famous,” and without knowing that, Rebecca Ann Henry, lead singer/aerialist, and I said that line to each other a few hours before her extremely captivating performance at the Bluebird Theatre on February 12th.
The Jeff Austin Band played last week at the Bluebird Theater in Denver to showcase their new album, The Simple Truth. The performance proved loud and clear that the future is bright for Jeff Austin and his compadres, and that Austin is anything but done playing music after his separation from Yonder Mountain String Band earlier this year.
We’re taking a break from our national act posts to talk about Denver locals RAH (Rebecca Ann Henry, Daniel Greenblatt, and Will Scheisser) who have announced their newest live experience February 12th at the Bluebird Theater. In a little over a week, RAH will be joined by Honey Puddle (Led Zeppelin cover band), and Contraband in a night of upbeat music and a new age twist on circus arts, combining aerial dance and creative extravaganzas with live electronic rock performance.

Fox Street is one of those bands I wouldn’t expect to be based in Colorado. Florida possibly, Texas I could see, but Colorado is a bit of a wildcard. Maybe it’s Jonathan Huvards’ throat churning, rocky road vocals. Then again it could be the picking, sliding and stomping of their close-knit instrumental unit that screams southern roots.
Fruition and Grant Farm shared the stage September 25th at the Bluebird Theater in Denver to release their 4-song joint EP titled Meeting On The Mountain. The combination of Fruition’s bluegrass-Americana and Grant Farm’s country twang made for a great show with lots of friends, high-fives, and dancing. Denver was Fruition’s second stop in an 8-show tour showcasing the new album.
On a brisk February night in Denver, Nederland jamgrass band Mountain Standard Time (with some help from some special guests) brought the heat to the Bluebird Theater for part of their annual Mardi Gras celebration.
