Memorial Day weekend, Monterey Fairgrounds played host to the ninth annual, three-day reggae movement known as Cali Roots. In the three days, Grateful Web was at Cali Roots, there was one word we just kept hearing over and over again; “Homecoming.” From fans we met in the crowd to artists we spoke with behind the scenes, it seemed to be the magic word that everyone could relate to. But to say Cali Roots is a homecoming would be if anything, an understatement.

Grammy-winning reggae band Steel Pulse has released Put Your Hoodies On [4 Trayvon], a song dedicated to Trayvon Martin. Composed by lead singer David “Dread” Hinds, the song was released during the trial of George Zimmerman and is available as a free download here. “The song is a plea for justice,” says Hinds. "Steel Pulse has been campaigning and watching this case since February 26th 2012.

Steel Pulse may have explored various styles of music since they started out in 1975, but when it comes to the message, the UK’s Grammy – Winning reggae band has remained close to their roots.  The Group have continued their commitment to fighting injustice, educating the masses, and promoting positive messages through spiritually uplifting music.“We just can’t ignore the politics, because every life and soul that’s born on this earth is a political manoeuvre for someone, at some point”, Hinds explains.
