Mountain music has been in Jesse Smathers’ family for generations. His grandfather, Harold Smathers, and grand uncle Luke Smathers, recorded for June Appal and were awarded the North Carolina Folk Heritage Award in 1993 for their contributions to North Carolina folk music. And that’s just one piece of the family tree: the Smathers musical tradition can be traced back to when the family first settled in the North Carolina mountains in the 1700s.

Nathaniel Rateliff is announcing two more performances celebrating the life and work of Leonard Cohen, this time with the 40-piece Wordless Orchestra in Toronto at Roy Thompson Hall on April 20 and Montreal at Salle Wilfrid Pelletier on April 22.

Today, GRAMMY-award winning rock bands The National and The War On Drugs announced their 2024 Zen Diagram Tour across North America, marking the first time the two bands have toured together. The 19-date fall run kicks off on Thursday, September 12 in Gilford, NH at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion, with stops in New York, Toronto, Chicago, Vancouver, Berkeley, and more before wrapping up with a performance at Mexico City’s Palacio De Los Deportes on Thursday, October 10. The tour also includes a show at the iconic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
