The newly recorded “Green Onions (62’ Onions Cut)” (Fantasy Records) is out now. It was recorded at Earthstar Studios in Venice, CA and features Booker T’s son Ted Jones on guitar. You can listen to the track HERE.

Since its release in 1962, "Green Onions", originally recorded by Booker T. & The M.G.’s, has been celebrated as one of the most influential soul tracks ever recorded - it has been streamed over 200M times and has graced countless films, television shows, and commercials. The track kickstarted the Stax label’s Southern funk, blues, and soul sound, which picked up steam with Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, and dozens of others from the ’60s through the ’70s. Decades after first hitting the airwaves, the track remains an essential part of the cultural soundscape, its reach spanning generations of music lovers and pop culture enthusiasts alike.

“Green Onions” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999, appeared on Rolling Stone’s 2004 ‘Top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time’ list, and has been covered by acts as diverse as Roy Buchanan, Tom Petty, Vassar Clements, (the Grateful Dead), and even Khruangbin, who were nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys last weekend. It’s one of the most influential songs to emerge from the golden age of soul and continues to define the sonic backdrop of pop culture’s biggest moments.
