"The River" is a crowdfunded cinematic journey through the lives, lore, and locales along three of the American South's great rivers: the Cumberland, the Mississippi, and the Tallahatchie. This radical psychedelic and musical experience is the brainchild of Coyote Motel’s pack leader, Ted Drozdowski, a renowned guitarist, songwriter, journalist, and music historian. Directed by Richie Owens of Parlor Films, the film is a unique blend of performance, storytelling, and cultural history, described as a "visionary autobiography" by Grammy-winning music journalist Anthony DeCurtis.
Over 15 Nashville independent artists, including light art creators Darling Lucifer Productions and the aerialists of Suspended Gravity Circus, have collaborated on this project. Drozdowski’s life-long exploration of America’s musical roots and his connection to the cosmic and cultural heritage of the South have culminated in this breathtaking film and soundtrack. "My entire life has been a rehearsal for 'The River,'" says Drozdowski. "This film and its music are the embodiment of my journey and passion."
The film has already garnered critical acclaim, receiving Best Original Feature Soundtrack and Best Experimental Feature awards at Cincinnati’s Queen City Film Festival. It stands as a testament to the rich musical and cultural tapestry of the American South, promising to be an unforgettable experience for audiences worldwide.
