Prepare for a weekend of sizzling jazz as the Dave Stryker Organ Quartet featuring the legendary Bob Mintzer graces the stage at The Jazz Forum on August 30 and 31, with performances at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM each night.

The quartet’s newest release, Groove Street, is already making waves in the jazz world, and critics are buzzing about its masterful blend of rhythm, melody, and improvisation. Alexa Peters of Downbeat described Groove Street as “a pot set to simmer, allowing for some delectable improvisations... The album's eponymous track is perhaps its greatest triumph, blending the familiarity of a shuffle beat with a forward-looking angular melody, twisting progression, and stand-out solo from Stryker.”

Jazz critic Dee Dee McNeil echoes the praise, noting, “When I see Dave Stryker’s name, I know that I’m in for an album that swings hard and upholds the legacy of jazz organ and guitar. This time Stryker has added the talents of Bob Mintzer on tenor saxophone... they reflect the beauty of musical communication and camaraderie.”

Having completed his successful series of nostalgic Eight Track projects, veteran guitarist Dave Stryker is now riding a prolific wave of creativity. His latest opus, Groove Street, recorded alongside longtime collaborators Jared Gold (organ) and McClenty Hunter (drums), adds the distinctive voice of Grammy-winning saxophonist Bob Mintzer to the mix. The album features a dynamic range of originals and fresh takes on jazz standards, showcasing the quartet's ability to play intuitively, with nearly everything pulled off in a single take.

Whether it’s the electrifying title track "Groove Street," Wayne Shorter’s tender “Infant Eyes,” or Eddie Harris' upbeat “Cold Duck Time,” this quartet is locked in, creating moments of buoyancy, excitement, and profound musical connection. Jonathan Widran of JWVibe writes, “Whether or not Mintzer ever becomes an official member or it’s ever renamed a quartet, here’s hoping this unit will be gracing our ears for the long haul.”
