The Disco Biscuits are celebrating twenty years since their first gig at the Mishawaka. They played their debut show on July 5th, 2001 and then again in 2002 and 2003 with two shows each year. The most recent show from the joy spreaders of improvisational jam was on September 18th, 2010, they were billed as Tractorbeam for that gig. The band, venue and fans are very excited about this 2021 three-night run at the magnificent Mishawaka. The Disco Biscuits stated in an announcement that they have been actively seeking outdoor venues to deliver their music to the people safely. We can’t wait to return to Poudre Canyon where it seems effortless to put on a great show in the magical setting that is the Mishawaka.
This Pennsylvania born ensemble have been bringing the brotherly love of music to fans for over two decades and continue to evolve and explore their sound. The affinity these friends shared for psychedelic rock, electronic, blues, jazz and classical music is as strong today as it was in 1995 when they put the band together. The melodic arrangements coupled with repetitive drum beats and the ability to explore and create on the fly gives them a very distinctive sound. Their style has been described as Trance Fusion. They have successfully incorporated all of these genres along with extreme musicianship to create the magical vibe that has kept them at the forefront of the improvisational jam scene for many years. Their music has a very adventurous element that transcends genres and leaves you to determine where it takes you.
Last night the Mishawka was transformed into a rock and roll oasis of sound, lights and vibrations. The production crew of the Disco Biscuits worked tirelessly to transform the venue into a magical kaleidoscope of color with light beams swaying back and fourth across the foothills surrounding the venue that could be seen for several miles as you drive up the twisty mountain roads towards the venue.
The chilly temperatures did not curb the enthusiasm of the guests. The Mishawaka was packed with fans from all over the state and beyond our borders. Many folks I spoke with were attending all three nights of the run and couldn’t be happier about their current situation. Many devoted fans put in the same miles as the band zigzagging across the country and experiencing bliss through music and friendship.
When the band walked out on stage you could feel the temperature rise in the audience. The fab four of electronic jam music were excited to be back on the Mishawaka stage after such a long hiatus. The crowd welcomed the band with a warm Colorado welcome. The unique aspect of the band is the individuality that each member brings to the performance. They all have an acute awareness of what the other members are up to and the music is constantly evolving and taking shape as the songs progress and grow.
The jam started with House Dog Party Favor, it was a nice progressive build with the bands distinctive style of delivery. The crowds energy and excitement build with each note as the arrangements flow and swirl through the air taking over your mind and body. The spectacle of sound, lights and energy from the stage bounces off the guests and back to the band as they become one entity of joy. The set progressed with We Like To Party, Munchkin Invasion and Mr. Don. The band was sounding tight as ever and after the break they unleashed a musical assault of goodness. The 2nd set - Story Of The World, Lake Shore Drive, Confrontation, Above The Waves back to Story Of the World.
The ear pleasing mind bending tones along with the incredible vibe and visuals made opening night and the triumphant return of the Disco Biscuits to the mighty Mishawaka a night that will be remembered and cherished by all. On a personal note it was amazing to see my dear friend Mo, she is working behind the scenes with the Disco Biscuits. It was a great surprise to see her and I am sure her skills, personality and ambition are a great asset to the band. Thanks to the Mishawaka Team for providing this incredible opportunity for so many people to enjoy.
