Lotus drops the new hip-hop album Monks today as a free download on the band’s Bandcamp page. Fans can also purchase via iTunes, order vinyl on Bandcamp and stream/download on SoundCloud. This latest release on SCI Fidelity finds the electronic 5-piece once again breaking new ground as they use their own studio work as a sample source but recontextualized as classic hip-hop. Guests on the album include several respected rappers including Gift of Gab, Mr. Lif, Doodlebug, Lyrics Born, Ozay Moore, Ras Arcane and more while instrumental interludes create cinematic vignettes.
The band also premieres the video for “Cannon in the Heavens” featuring Lyrics Born today. The video was shot at Denver Cruiser Ride, a weekly event in the summer where folks from around the city take to the streets for fun on bikes. It features cameo appearances by some of Lotus’ musician friends - Steve Molitz (Particle), DJ Logic, Clay Parnell and Tom Hamilton (Brothers Past).
Lotus has announced new shows for the remaining 2013 tour which already features a headline appearance at Red Rocks this Friday and two-night runs at Athens’ Georgia Theater, Charlottesville’s Jefferson Theater and DC’s 9:30 Club. New to the schedule is New York City’s Terminal 5 on November 30th and a two-night New Year’s run at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory among others.
Lotus is composed of Mike Greenfield (Drums), Jesse Miller (Bass, Sampler), Luke Miller (Guitar, Keys), Mike Rempel (Guitar) and Chuck Morris (Percussion)
