French-born drummer, composer, and producer Antoine Cara is set to release his highly anticipated album, Status Quo, showcasing an extraordinary roster of world-renowned musicians. This dynamic collection of original compositions blends hard-edged funk, Latin jazz fusion, melodic pop, and uptempo jazz, offering a fresh perspective on modern jazz and ensemble performance.

Featuring legendary contributors such as Randy Brecker (trumpet) and guitar greats Mike Stern, Oz Noy, and Nazim Kri, Status Quo highlights Cara’s multifaceted talents as a drummer, composer, and leader. Additional standout performances include Jerry Léonide (keyboards), Kevin Reveyrand (bass), Yvonnick Prene (harmonica), and saxophonists Yannick Soccal and Gabriel Richards.

“I wanted to create energetic, feel-good music with horns, percussion, guitars, and keys,” says Cara. “The incredible guest musicians brought these tracks to life with their unique phrasing and masterful soloing. The drums play a central role throughout, both within the ensemble and as a featured solo instrument, giving seven of the nine songs a rhythmic spotlight.”

An Innovative Approach to Composition

Cara’s compositions borrow from electronic music production techniques, incorporating micro-samples and time-stretched elements for a modern edge. Tracks such as “Status Quo,” “Déjà Vu,” and “Let’s Play” highlight Cara’s rhythmic ingenuity, complemented by French bassist Kevin Reveyrand’s exceptional groove and production skills.

The soulful harmonica solos of Yvonnick Prene shine on tracks like “When We Were Young” and “Nevermind,” the latter featuring a fiery exchange with guitarist Mike Stern. Meanwhile, keyboardist Jerry Léonide lends his rich textures and blistering solos on standout tracks “Wrong Turn” and “Quidproquo.”

Guitarists Oz Noy and Nazim Kri bring their unique styles to “Take It Easy” and “Déjà Vu,” adding vibrant energy and contrast to the album’s soundscape. Trumpet legend Randy Brecker elevates tracks like “Quidproquo” with his unmistakable tone and phrasing.

Breaking the Cycle: The Inspiration Behind Status Quo

“The title Status Quo reflects the feeling of being stuck in a routine, longing for change,” says Cara. “This album represents my effort to break that cycle—personally and professionally. It’s about stepping out of familiar situations and pushing past fear to create something new.”
