The Midwest-based band The Farewell Season is proud to announce the release of their debut album, Funeral Flowers. Available now on all major digital platforms, the 10-track record will also be issued on vinyl on January 31, 2025 via Onken-Stein Records.

Formed by frontman Nate Gasaway and drummer Taylor Stein, The Farewell Season features Paul Gedbaw on guitar and Justin Crow on bass. Originally a remote project started during the pandemic, the band now splits time between Omaha, Nebraska and the Twin Cities, delivering a sound that glides effortlessly through Americana, folk rock, indie, and beyond.

“This is a project that has been hovering around my consciousness for about four years,” says Gasaway. “We’ve chipped away at recordings—sometimes at a painstaking pace—but we made it to the finish line.”

Funeral Flowers was produced by former Nashville and renowned Omaha producer J. Scott Gaeta, who tracked most of the record at his Music Factory Productions studio. The single, “You’ll Find A Way,” recorded at the famous Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, Minnesota with engineer Nick Tveitbakk, has already received radio play in both Minnesota and Nebraska. Another advance single, the raucous title track “Funeral Flowers,” also garnered airplay in Omaha in the weeks leading up to the album release.

From the sweeping, epic beauty of “Blood & Time,” to the haunting atmosphere of “Holy Water,” to the back-porch ease of “Badlands,” the songs on Funeral Flowers chart a course through heartfelt storytelling and panoramic instrumentation. Every track stands strong on its own, yet together they form an immersive, cohesive collection—one perfectly suited for a long drive down a winding back highway.

This marks the 11th release by Omaha-based DIY label Onken-Stein Records—a milestone that deeply resonates with drummer/label co-founder Taylor Stein:

“From a label standpoint, we’re excited to have The Farewell Season on the roster. Personally, being in the band as well, I’m pumped to join forces with these guys. We’ve all known each other for a long time playing in other OSR projects, so it’s fun to jam with these guys and try something new.”
