Goose returned for the second night of Goosemas XI at the North Charleston Coliseum, and brought even more twists and turns. They kept the fans on their toes by being unpredictable, even with a theme they have executed multiple times before. This included numerous first time played covers, as well as a bingo ball with "D+B+Flamingos." DJ Marb Menthols made an appearance, and all was made right in the world with a Grateful Dead encore.

Prior to the Goosemas event, Goose randomly generated 12000 bingo cards that correlated to balls in the giant bingo machine behind them on stage. Fans signed up to receive a card, and it was scored in real time by their software. One of our friends had the "D+B+Flamingos" on their card, so we had some idea that flamingos might make an appearance. We had "Chakras" on our card, which was never selected, and are certainly curious what that entailed.

The second night began very similarly to the first, with the band walking on stage to "Sirius," or the Chicago Bulls entry music, by the Alan Parsons Project. All five band members wore the same costumes as the night before: guitarist Rick Mitarotonda as Bob Segar, multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach as George Harrison, percussionist Jeff Arevalo as Dickie Betts, bassist Trevor Weekz as Rick James and drummer Cotter Ellis as Elton John. They were joined by MC Lucky Lou, who selected the bingo balls while hamming it up on stage with a southern drawl and Elvis inspired jump suit.

Lucky Lou selected "Madhuvan" as the first ball, which ignited a sixteen minute jam that went in many directions early. The band certainly came out swinging. "Borne" followed, with Lucky Lou quietly selecting "Bonus Ball 5" during the tune. They transitioned into "Slip Slidin' Away" by Paul Simon, which was the first of many first time played tunes this evening.

Newer tune "One In, One Out" was plucked from the bingo machine, which launched the band into a mellow jam that grew some legs. Lucky Lou picked "D+B+Flamingos," and within second, two huge inflatable flamingo flotation devices appeared near the photo pit. The crowd seized the moment and began passing one of the flamingos back, only to have it recalled. Both Mitarotonda and Anspach hopped on the giant pink flamingos and crowd surfed Andy Frasco style into the crowd. They went about half way back, and turned around. Anspach fell off at one point. Both of them had huge smiles, as the did the fans, who enjoyed every minute. Did we mention that Weekz, Ellis and Arevolo continued to play a sick, surf inspired groove during this adventure?

The band soldiered on as Mitarotonda and Anspach returned, and received a "14 Minute Jam" bingo ball. Without stopping, they continued into type two territory with an epic jam that deserves a re-listen for sure. The juicy funk jam transition into "Rockdale" was impressive, with Anspach on the clav. This slow burn funk jam quickly morphed into a proper ending jam, with Mitarotonda in face melting mode.

Percussionist Jeff Arevalo | Goose

Goose returned for round two, along with Lucky Lou, who pulled "All I Need" from the Bingo Machine. The band dove into the slow and melodic version, which was short lived, as another bingo ball directed the music into "Creatures." An up tempo, dark jam ensued that veered into the EDM space.

This eventually made way into a shorter "Empress of Organos." Bonus Ball #5 was chosen during the jam, which translated into Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes' "Don't Leave Me This Way." This first time played tune unfurled a disco inferno, complete with an epic set of lights, courtesy of Lighting Director Andrew Goedde. They upped their lighting game significantly for Goosemas, with a a huge light cube that rests above the crowd.

This disco dance party was not quite over, as Bonus Ball #3 was selected next, and translated into "Get Down Tonight" by KC and the Sunshine Band. Lucky Lou lent a hand with percussion during this 70's classic. Anspach layered in the clav during the raucous jam that ensued. At one point, the band was teasing "That's The Way (I Like It)," before heading into a jam rock peaks to end this first time played cover.

"Atlas Dogs" popped up next, picked up speed, and quickly segued into "Echo of a Rose." This version was also shorter than a typical "Echo," but packed no less punch. During this jam, the "$ Ready" ball was selected. This translated into the first verse and chorus of "Slow Ready," before heading back into "So Ready." The jam veered back into "Slow Ready" territory to end this incredible set.

DJ Marb Menthols | North Charleston Coliseum

The band returned for an encore, and played what might have been considered a third set. "Dripfield" was the last ball drawn from the oversized bingo machine. This was the fast version, which only made the selection sweeter. The music went off into a darker jam that included staff shooting shirts from cannons at the crowd. DJ Marb Menthols, aka Weekz, made an appearance as well, complete with turntables. He unleashed jungle beats and turned the room temporarily into an EDM throw down. This is another jam that we highly recommend a re-listen. He is playing a set at Viva El Gonzo in May 2025.

The music was not over, as Goose delved into "Help on the Way" by the Grateful Dead. The loud reaction of the crowd indicated their joy at this first time played selection. The psychedelic music flowed into the companion "Slipknot!" before a well orchestrated transition into "Franklin's Tower." They certainly made these songs their own, and brought a lot of smiles to many faces. The band directed the jam back in to "Empress" and ended this beefy encore on a high note.
