Guitarist, singer/songwriter, and bandleader Grahame Lesh of Midnight North, Grahame Lesh and Friends, and Phil Lesh and Friends has partnered with the nonprofit The Nancy Langhorne Foundation to release a limited-edition Christmas EP through their label, 12/23 Records. All proceeds from the record will be donated to provide free colon cancer screenings for underserved communities through the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and Eastern Virginia Medical School’s Hopes Clinic, in memory of the late saxophonist James Casey.

‘A California Christmas’ features Grahame Lesh and his band bringing their signature Bay Area sound (dubbed ‘Bay Rock’) to three modern holiday songs: Tom Petty’s "Christmas All Over Again," Norah Jones’s "Christmas Calling," and Steven Van Zandt’s "All Alone on Christmas," originally performed by Darlene Love for Home Alone 2. Grahame plays guitar, bass, and vocals on the record, joined by Nathan Graham on drums, Damian Calcagne on keyboards, and Justin Mazer on guitar.

The release is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies, featuring album art by illustrator Nate Cepis. Buyers can choose between a standard green vinyl edition and a signed gold vinyl variant. There are no plans for a repress, so once they’re gone, they’re gone. Records will be available for donation on 1223Records.com starting Tuesday, 11/12 at 11 am EST. Currently, this is a vinyl-only release, with no plans for a digital version.

12/23 Records is the record label arm of The Nancy Langhorne Foundation, a Virginia/Brooklyn-based nonprofit that raises funds for cancer research and free cancer screenings. Since 2017, they have raised and donated over $70,000 to Eastern Virginia Medical School, Colorectal Cancer Alliance, Sloan Kettering, and the Medical College of Virginia through their annual benefit concerts and record releases. Past releases have included holiday records supporting cancer research from James Casey, Natalie Cressman & Ian Faquini, and DJ Williams. This year, they’re also releasing Xmas in VA, a compilation featuring 14 Virginia artists performing holiday tunes, including Kendall Street Company, Todd Herrington, Cris Jacobs of Cris Jacobs Band, members of Butcher Brown, and more.
