The Greyboy Allstars will release Get a Job: Music from the Original Broadcast Series Soul Dream this Friday, April 1. It's the sixth studio recording to date by the quintet comprised by Karl Denson (saxophone, flute), Elgin Park (guitars), Aaron Redfield (drums), Chris Stillwell (bass) and Robert Walter (keys). To be issued via the band's own imprint, Knowledge Room Recordings, the album was captured live in the studio during The Greyboy Allstars' 2021 Soul Dream live-stream series. The set notches up the band's own jazz-funk and boogaloo narrative by spotlighting ten unique, never-before-released covers—primarily deep cuts and crate digger delights—that have become an integral part of their famed live performances for nearly three decades, including songs by Gil Scott-Heron, Gene Ammons, The Beatles, Gary Bartz and Burt Bacharach.
Today, The Greyboy Allstars share a video for "Got To Get Me A Job," a reinvention of Ann Alford's 1971 soul-funk scorcher and the second single from the forthcoming album. The clip was taken from the initial Soul Dream broadcast that led to the collection. Watch and share here.
Additionally, The Greyboy Allstars begin the next leg of their "Get A Job" U.S. tour this Wednesday night at The Big Top in St. Louis. The run makes several stops in the Midwest, including dates in Chicago, Milwaukee and Columbus before heading to the Northeast for shows in Woodstock, Washington, DC, Boston, Philadelphia and two nights at Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn.
