That place in space-time where everything is aligned and nothing can go wrong. Shooting pool on an alien spaceship, against aliens, and winning. With a space lounge piano player in the background smiling, Grateful Web is thrilled to premiere “Rare Form” from Brooklyn’s Space/Funk/Dance/Jam collective, Escaper off of their upcoming sophomore release, Edge Detection (Ropeadope Records.)

As Escaper's Will Hanza explains, "We were playing our very first show. It was at BRYAC in Black Rock, CT. It had been a fine show, but suddenly there was a swell of people in the room, coming from another show and looking to keep the dance party going. Only... we had run out of songs! Again, first show and this was late in our 2nd set... ! I turn to Jay (bass) and say, 'let's get the dance up, variation on that jam we call "Gold" but more upbeat and shakin'' Whatever that pulled out Jay certainly worked as the dance party was on in that room. We played the groove for a while and the riff just came out of the air. Johnny (sax) and I were right on it. Initially, we called it "BRYAC song", but it turned into "Rare Form" and became a song we almost always play... Bottom line, the vibe of the crowd helped write that song. We didn't just come up with it in the studio, it was straight out of the sauce. Inspired by how the whole room felt. A song born out of that is extra special. It's something we always try to do with our live shows, make sure to not just play at people, but with them."
