Florida’s SB 90 creates restrictive measures that push forward a false narrative that election integrity requires a system that makes it harder to vote.
Florida’s new election law creates immediate barriers to voter participation. This comes after a wildly successful and secure 2020 election in which millions of Floridians used the state’s vote by mail system. The new mandate to limit ballot drop box locations, hours of operation, and curtail local election official’s authority to meet the needs of their community simply removes established, tested and secure access points for voters.
These new restrictive measures push forward a false narrative that election integrity requires a system that makes it harder to vote. That is simply not true. American democracy is strongest when we create policy that makes elections accessible and secure for all voters, and we lean into policy and practice that is vetted and established as successful in this pursuit.
