North Carolina producer and songwriter Joe May kicks off the next chapter of his evolving career with the release of his brand-new studio single, Ignoring the Feeling, available everywhere on January 17, 2025. The track marks the first official glimpse into his forthcoming sophomore album, Mild Adversity & Shallow Heartbreaks, delivering a buoyant yet reflective sound that embodies May's distinct artistic duality.
Inspired by the smooth, sunlit grooves of ‘70s rock legends like Wings and Steely Dan, Ignoring the Feeling blends lush harmonies and unmistakable analog textures with May’s hallmark sharp wit. The single’s vibrant arrangement is bolstered by the contribution of North Carolina horn legend Brad Wilcox. Renowned for his work with the likes of Aretha Franklin, The O’Jays, and The Temptations, Wilcox arranged and performed the horn sections alongside his crew of long-time collaborators.

Produced and recorded live at May’s self-built Alta Mira Studios, the single also showcases the hands-on creativity and meticulous design that has become a hallmark of his music. Working exclusively with his favorite analog gear, May ensures that every note, from melody to harmony, is steeped in rich, organic textures. It’s a process that reflects his dual love for technical precision and spontaneous artistic expression.
Listeners can catch Ignoring the Feeling live at Joe’s official single release show on January 18th at Visulite Theatre, marking the debut of his nine-piece band, Joe May’s Month of Mondays. For tickets, tour dates, and much more, please visit Joe May’s website.
