As they prepare to kick off their much-anticipated headlining fall tour this week, acclaimed instrumental electronic rock band STS9 today (10/19) announced that their initial 2016 touring plans will commence January 21 in Portland, OR. The 19-date outing will then make stops in Eugene, Seattle, Salt Lake City and Oakland before reaching Los Angeles on January 30 for a show at the Wiltern Theatre. The tour will continue to Colorado for back-to-back shows in both Aspen and Denver before making its way to the Midwest and wrapping with two nights in Chicago February 13 and 14. Tickets for the 2016 tour dates will go on sale Friday, October 23 at 10am local time. Go to www.sts9.com for more information and ticket links.
The 2016 touring news comes on the heels of STS9's performance this past Saturday at the Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco and the upcoming launch of their 21-date fall headlining tour, set to begin this Thursday, October 22 in Minneapolis. STS9 recently revealed the support acts that will join the quintet. Rotating nightly will be Emancipator Ensemble, Break Science, the New Deal, TAUK, Jaw Gems, Modern Measure, and Sunsquabi. In addition, STS9 will perform a few select "Evening With" shows. See below for a full list of tour dates, including each night's support artist.
STS9--Hunter Brown (guitar/sequences), Jeffree Lerner (percussion), David Phipps (keyboards/synths), Zach Velmer (drums) and Alana Rocklin (bass)--completed a massive summer of festival appearances with performances at Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, BUKU, Pemberton, Camp Bisco, All Good, and Summer Camp, among others. The band wrapped their summer with an impressive sold-out double header at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre for two shows September 11 and 12, marking their 13th consecutive year playing the famed venue.
Of the Red Rocks performance, Nate Etter from the Denver Post said, "STS9 draws you in with their group approach to dance music. Each member shines in their own way, but it is never a flashy solo that steals the show. It is a relentless groove, the electronic edge (multiple members cue in samples) and collaborative melodies (David Phipps' synth and Hunter Brown's guitar parts often align) that keep you interested. Then the band has the best sixth man in the business, lighting designer Saxton Waller. Pulling the strings of one of the largest lighting rigs Red Rocks has ever seen. Waller's geometric creations truly lifted the music to new heights" (9/13/15).
STS9 is currently touring with their largest production rig of their career, using the latest cutting-edge sound and lighting to deliver one of the most audibly and visually stunning shows in North America today. Of their headlining shows during fall 2014, Thomas Scaggs from Maine Music News noted, "In a world where so many buttons are pressed at concerts, it's inspiring to see and listen to five musicians creating music in real-time that is on the very cusp of what it means to jam in the 21st century" (10/19/14).
To cap off this year, STS9 will return to Dominican Holidaze in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic December 3-7, where the band will perform multiple times. Lastly, STS9 will celebrate New Year's with a four-night run in Atlanta, GA at The Tabernacle December 30-31 and January 1-2 dubbed "In the Fourth Dimension."
Additionally, the band's highly anticipated next studio release is in the final stretches and set to be released in 2016 (date TBA).
