The NYC-based rock/fusion quartet TAUK announced today they will throw a Hurricane Sandy Benefit Concert at Spike Hill in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, November 24th. All funds raised at the event will be matched by sponsors and then donated to All Hands Volunteers (www.hands.org), an organization already helping families in New York and New Jersey rebuild after the storm.
With band members from Long Island and Staten Island, TAUK felt especially inspired to act in the wake of the storm. When Sandy tore through their hometowns, the band was in Alabama on tour with Perpetual Groove. "We returned home to a state and city in desperate need of help. Many have lost their homes entirely and thousands more remain without power. Realizing this, we felt the best thing to do would be to put a show together to benefit those still in need."
TAUK will headline the show with support from fellow NYC acts TBA soon. Entrance into the show is free but a $10 donation is encouraged as well as for attendees to contribute coats. Attendees who bring coats or give the suggested donation will receive a free beer.
Tauk is Charlie Dolan (Bass), Alric "A.C." Carter (Keyboard-Organ), Matt Jalbert (Guitar), and Isaac Teel (Drums). Tauk released their EP, "Pull Factors" in March 2012 and plans to head into the studio in December with Grammy-winning producer Robert Carranza (Jack Johnson, Mars Volta) to record their first ever, all-instrumental LP. The band's sound is a unique blend of funk, jazz, pop, and rock with a fresh, experimental spirit that has already attracted an early DIY buzz.
While their tunes are adventurous in scope, the band's origins are humble. Dolan, Carter, and Jalbert met as teenagers in middle school and instantly connected over a shared passion for music. Since playing together for a full decade and crafting their unique instrumental style, TAUK has scored opening gigs for O.A.R., moe., Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Perpetual Groove, 311, Tea Leaf Green and Toubab Krewe and spots of top festivals such as Bonnaroo, Gathering of the Vibes, The Hangout Music Festival, Summer Camp Music Festival and The Allman Brother's Peach Fest.
