Progressive bluegrass band Wheels North is thrilled to announce the release of their first full-length studio album, Arrival. Featuring 12 original tracks, the album showcases the band’s diverse songwriting voices and genre-blending approach, with no cover songs in sight.
Each member of Wheels North contributes a unique perspective to Arrival: Mark penned five tracks, including the heartfelt “Friend,” co-written with Chris; Hayley delivered three songs, highlighted by the ethereal “Time Stands Still”; and Jesse added three tunes, including the arrangement-rich “New Love.” The album is a culmination of the group's individual musical journeys and their collective energy.
Recorded at Populist Studios in Chicago with producer James Scott, the project represents both a milestone and a springboard for the band. “Every studio session brought out new ideas and inspirations,” the band shared. “Even though we couldn’t incorporate everything in this album, we feel it represents where we’ve been and where we’re heading as artists.”
Known for their fearless exploration of genres, Wheels North blends influences ranging from Frank Zappa to Doc Watson, J.S. Bach to Miles Davis. They embrace the label “progressive bluegrass” while acknowledging that their sound defies strict categorization. “Bluegrass is like a colander,” the band explains. “It filters all of our influences into something cohesive and delicious.”
With roots stretching back to 2017, the current quartet — Hayley, Mark, Jesse, and Chris — has been together for two years. They combine classical, jazz, and singer-songwriter elements with traditional bluegrass. As the band looks to the future, they’re already experimenting with new ideas, including electric bass and extended jam sections, signaling an exciting evolution in their sound.
Arrival is available now on major streaming platforms. For more information on Wheels North and upcoming tour dates, visit wheelsnorthmusic.com or check them out on social media!
