Who influenced who? I wasn’t introduced to The Band until after maybe my fifth Dead show. For me, this was the 90’s, still just a teenager. The popular music at that time, in my opinion, was nowhere near the caliber of the iconic bluegrass, folk, country, psychedelic, classic rock bands. I was diving into my parents’ world, my mind being blown, unfamiliar with the timeline of music influencers. Not as well known, The Band was the most influential in the development of the Dead’s sound.

The guests were treated to support acts All Night Train (Allman Brothers Tribute) and the Night Shades (Funk and Rock). One of Santa Barbara’s most successful homegrown bands returned to touring, playing the first of two sold-out nights at the historic Lobero Theater on January 30th. Dead Floyd is a four-piece band based out of Fort Collins Colorado. They formed in 2009 and have been delighting audiences everywhere they perform. They have very successfully combined the music of the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd into a sound and light extravaganza. The highly talented and diverse musicianship in this band enables them to not only perform the music as it was, but to also carry it beyond their predecessors in new and modern directions.
