Nashville-based folk power duo Adrian + Meredith are thrilled to share a new single, “DOA” from their forthcoming album Bad For Business, arriving August 20, 2021. A spirited anthem set to an infectious surfer-rock guitar hook, “DOA” channels the exuberant, “fly-off-the-handle” sensibilities of being young and carefree in the dog days of summer. Preceding the release of the couple’s sophomore LP effort, the bold singalong makes a strong case for living on the edge, blissfully unaware of consequences.
Written over a decade ago as Adrian was approaching burnout in metropolitan DC, the song speaks to the absurdity of hustle culture, pointing instead to the exhilaration of seizing the moment – years later, the sentiment holds true. Meredith shares, “Despite its bleak title, it’s actually a feel-good song. A reminder to have fun, make some trouble, and not take anything for granted.” Making its official streaming debut today, “DOA” is a refreshing palate cleanser in a world wrought with solemnity.
Next month, Adrian + Meredith will unveil their second studio album, Bad For Business. Produced by Mark Robertson, revered bassist and producer for The Legendary Shack Shakers, and featuring an impressive cast including pedal steel master Paul Niehaus (Justin Townes Earle, Calexico), saxophonist Ken Francis Wenzel (Carlos Santana, Bobby Parker), and banjo player Fats Kaplan (Jack White), the record spans the breadth of modern American life through the lens of current socio-political conditions. Inspired by the couple’s frequent visits abroad, Bad For Business is a patchwork of old time, Balkan, and “rogue-folk” arrangements that both reckon with and celebrate the unique aspects of our culture. Over 11 homespun tracks, the duo paints vignettes of everyday people navigating life in an increasingly unstable world, redeemed by the power of community. A poignant listen that is both timely and enduring, Bad For Business transcends borders to offer a glimpse of hope in the face of calamity.
Bad For Business from Adrian + Meredith will be released digitally and physically on Friday, August 20. To pre-save the record, click here. For more information on Adrian + Meredith, visit adrianplusmeredith.com
