On this cold Chicago February night, the house was smoking hot for this triple bill. The Funky Meters headlined with Chicago's own Zaramela and Woo Park opening. Zaramela reminded me of a psychedelic version of Kids These Days and Woo Park had their own funk-n-groove heating up the crowd for The Funky Meters.  Woo Park played their originals but promptly grabbed my attention when they broke out into a killer version of Meshell Ndegeocello's early hit "If That's Your Boyfriend (He Wasn't Last Night)". 

By the time The Funky Meters hit the stage the energy was high and the whole house was dancing. Formed back in 1989 by Art Neville (keyboards) and George Porter Jr. (bass) , they are the driving force still playing today. Along with Terrence Houston (drums), Brian Stoltz (guitar) the four of them make one big, funked-out sound. They simply weave into and out of deep funky jams into whatever direction they want. At one point they snuck up on a tasty version of Stephen Stills' 'Love the One Your With'.
