St Germain 90 minute set was a fury of dancing and reconnecting with their US audience after years since thir last tour.
The Henry Fonda Theater
St. Germain hasn't been to the states in 15 years and hasn't had a release in nearly as long. However with last year's self-titled release, the Paris-based DJ/producer has returned with an amazing afro-pop jazz ensemble. The 2015 release 'St. Germain' had taken a decidedly different turn from his earlier blockbuster releases 'Tourist' and 'Boulevard'. Whereas all these releases have a distinct jazz influence, 'St. Germain' takes a deep dive into West African sounds, rhythms and instrumentation including two unique aftrican string instruments the n'goni and kora.
Their set is a nice blend of new material and familiar older hits. The receptive audience was lost in their dancing as every song played was infectious and the ensemble was energied.
They wrappred up their tour at Coachella and head back to France. As die-hard fans, we can only hope that they return soon.
