Chicago area fans were treated to a three night, sold-out run of STS9 at The House of Blues. The two sets, with no support act were awash of pure danceability. Their lighting show alone is worth attending but combined with this full sound is a complete immersion of the senses. Opening with 'Vibyl' from their 2007 release ‘Artifact’ a more down temple groove, the audience was right with them from the start. Things quickly heated up into the rhythmic opening of ‘Rent’ and continued into ‘On;y Light Remains’, while the energy paused momentarily into haunting synth opening of ‘Kabuki’. Referred to as ‘Livetronica’ I am blown away by this full electronic sounds played lived. The arrangements are so much more than simple instrumentals. It seems like a great meld and evolution between electronica and jam band. Theirs seems to be no single accurate label for this quintet as their is funk, drum and bass, electronica, psychedelia, post-rock dance and more.
