If you want to enumerate all the amazing San Francisco Bay Area rock, fusion, and jam bands that have played a role in the region’s storied musical history, you might want to start your count with Zero.

The Grateful Guitars Foundation (GGF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that obtains world-class musical instruments for talented players who seek to carry on the tradition of jam band music into the 21st century and beyond, has announced that it will gift the legendary musician Steve Kimock with a recreation of Jerry Garcia’s Wolf guitar during his band Zero’s 40th-anniversary shows at Petaluma’s Mystic Theater on November 8 and 9.

Nothing’s like Zero. Forty years ago, guitarist Steve Kimock and drummer Greg Anton went into a studio and recorded what was to become the inception of the repertoire for the band Zero. As one of the innovators of improvisational jam band music, Zeroi s a Bay Area musical institution. The band has played more than 1,300 concerts across the country, being joined onstage by such luminaries as Jerry Garcia, John Cipollina, Derek Trucks, Martin Fierro, Nicky Hopkins, and John Kahn.

The Horseshoe Music Festival, in conjunction with the Launch Pad Foundation 501c3, proudly announces the all-star lineup for their 2nd Annual Labor Day Weekend festival. Please don’t murder me if you think this review of the acclaimed jam-fusion band Jazz Is Dead runs hard to the gushy side. But even after all these years – more than 50 years of concert-going – I’m still a pretty impressionable guy (It’s true. . .) and it was only my first time seeing them.  So there was a lot to take in.

The first annual Horseshoe Music Festival, set in picturesque Jackson, Wyoming Labor Day weekend was nothing short of magical. Musician Duane Betts and his wife, designer Lisa Hadley Betts created a completely unique, festival experience that celebrated all the things they love and appreciate.

Thursday, April 20th, was the first full day of music at the 2023 Skull & Roses Music Festival. Many in the crowd happily celebrated 4-20 in a smokey haze during the 12-hour musical marathon. The fact that cannabis is now legal in California made the occasion all the more celebratory. A strong wind picked up, clearing the sky of clouds, making for a warm afternoon and a crystal-clear evening.

Jazz Is Dead, the acclaimed All-Star instrumental ensemble, famous for interpretations of classic Grateful Dead songs with jazz influences, proudly announce their August 2023 dates spanning the “Days Between & Beyond” in celebration of its 25th Anniversary. After a whirl-wind January tour covering 10 states and performing 16 shows, co-founder Alphonso Johnson will once again be joined by Steve Kimock, Pete Lavezzoli & Bobby Lee Rodgers.
